Good things tend to happen around a table. It's a place where we are able to slow down with family and friends over a meal or drink. It's a place where friends hear one another and become family. It provides a neutral space for adversaries to come together to discuss how they can get past differences and treat one another with dignity and respect. It's a place where we can put aside our combative natures for a while and seek the truth together as friends. A table is a place where everyone shares one thing in common: their hunger and need for something that satisfies. The table is where we come, busy and hungry, to sit so that we can be satisfied and find rest together.
Practically speaking, this means that we at Declaration City Church make it a habit of getting together as groups of individuals to share our lives together. In these groups, we gather around good food and good conversation. Through these groups, we develop deep friendships and share life's challenges together. These groups are open to Christians and non-Christians alike. For those of us who have made the choice to follow Jesus, this gives us a place of mutual encouragement and a way to live out the love of Jesus. For those of us who haven't made that commitment, who are seeking answers or who may be curious about church, Table Groups provide a non-threatening environment to ask questions, express doubts, and find support in that search. Whoever you are, wherever in life you are, you are free to come as you are. There is a seat waiting for you at our table.
